 Clarity For Diamonds
All diamonds are unique, like a finger-print, and most diamonds have natural birth marks that are known as inclusions. Most of these imperfections are invisible to the naked eye. Inclusions can run from an included crystal to a fracture within the diamond. Clarity is determined by the number, colour, nature, size and position of the diamond's inclusions. And they affect the diamond's facets. The general rule is: the closer a diamond is to flawless, the rarer it becomes and the greater its value. According to the quality analysis system of the Gemological Institute of America, clarity is graded on a scale ranging from "flawless" to "imperfect." A diamond that shows no inclusions after magnifying it 10 times, is called 'flawless'. The next grade, IF, meaning internally flawless, indicates that a diamond might have minor surface blemishes but is internally clear. The next lower grade for diamonds is VVS (1 and 2), or very very slight inclusions, which are difficult to see without magnification. These are followed by VS (1 and 2), signifying very slight inclusions to SI, (1, 2 and 3) for slight inclusions. The succeeding grades of I 1, I 2 and I 3 indicate inclusions that are visible under 10x magnification as well as to the naked eye. The difference in price between a VS 1 quality stone and an SI 1 can be as much as 20%, all other things being equal.

 CUT..........
Of the four C's, humans can only influence the Cut. This is the most important characteristic of any diamond. A well cut diamond is what the naked eye will be attracted to first and last Technically, cut is the detail and precision that brings out the maximum amount of light that reflects and is refracted. The more attention to detail, the greater the "fire", brilliance and sparkle. A well proportioned diamond will reflect light within the stone and send it back through the top of the diamond to our eyes. And this is what is seen easily and appreciated most. A diamond cut with good proportions is most valuable.
In addition to the round brilliant cut, you can choose a pear, oval, emerald-cut, marquise, princess or heart-shaped stone. All have the same fiery sparkle, but each is shaped and faceted in a different way.
